Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probability of each outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in how each venue assesses the event. It’s worth comparing both to gain a more comprehensive view of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants, offering a unique view compared to traditional betting venues. The more traders believe an outcome will occur, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will climb.
