Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a wider range of perspectives being incorporated into the prediction market price. Examining these differences can offer valuable insights into public perception and potential value opportunities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe Amandine Hesse will win, the higher the price of shares representing her victory will climb, and vice versa for Tamila Gadamauri. This dynamic pricing reflects the evolving consensus of the crowd.
