Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often incorporating information and analysis beyond what’s readily available to sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market allows anyone to trade, potentially leading to odds that more accurately represent the true probability of an outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, risk appetite, or simply variations in opinion among participants. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than traditional sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective judgment of all participants, dynamically adjusting as new information becomes available and opinions shift regarding the Glasgow W75 match.
