Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin for themselves, which can slightly skew probabilities. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders, aims to reflect the true probability of each outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, prediction markets can rapidly adjust based on new information and diverse opinions, potentially offering more accurate probabilities as the event approaches. It's worth comparing both to gain a well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each player winning the Stara Zagora tennis match. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions prove correct. The market’s price is entirely determined by supply and demand among traders.
