Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals freely trading based on their own research and beliefs. Therefore, discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of a decentralized market. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks, especially when there's significant public interest and information available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Glushkova vs Kostova match. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all participants, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event’s likelihood. This differs from static odds offered by traditional bookmakers.
