Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of the prediction market. If a significant difference exists, it may present an opportunity for arbitrage, where traders can profit by exploiting the price difference between Polymarket and sportsbooks. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither is guaranteed to be correct.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Dominguez Garcia vs Oz match. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a probability estimate. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The closer the price is to 100, the more the market believes that outcome will occur. Traders are incentivized to provide accurate predictions, as they profit if their beliefs align with the eventual result. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the latest available information and collective intelligence.
