Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, being driven by collective prediction, aims to reflect the true probability of an outcome as assessed by traders. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, prediction markets dynamically adjust based on a wider range of information and participant opinions. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, potentially offering arbitrage opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome.
