Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to differences, especially when there’s strong public sentiment or information asymmetry. It's common to see this market diverge from initial sportsbook lines as more information and opinions are factored in by traders, potentially offering value to those who identify discrepancies between the two.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price converges towards what the crowd believes is the true probability. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective wisdom of the market participants and adjusts in real-time based on new information or changing sentiment surrounding the Gibbs vs Saulter match.
