Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of participants, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own modeling and to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven purely by individuals’ willingness to buy or sell based on their beliefs about the outcome. It's common to see discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly diverges from the sportsbook’s initial assessment. These differences can present opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a specific outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective prediction of the event’s result.
