Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting percentages and risk management into their lines, while this market relies solely on individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. Analyzing these differences can reveal insights into where the market and sportsbooks disagree on the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market efficiently incorporates new information as it becomes available, leading to dynamic price adjustments based on collective sentiment.
