Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a wider range of participants. If you find significant differences between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it could indicate that the market believes there's value in a particular outcome that sportsbooks haven't fully priced in, or vice versa. It's a useful comparison point for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the perceived likelihood of that outcome occurring. The market dynamically adjusts as new information becomes available and traders update their predictions. This creates a real-time assessment of the event’s potential results, driven by the collective intelligence of the participants.
