Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven by traders who aim to accurately predict the outcome. As more information becomes available and opinions converge, the odds on Polymarket may move closer to, or diverge further from, those offered by traditional sportsbooks. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks, particularly when there’s significant public interest and information asymmetry.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As traders exchange shares, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand on Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or a central authority.
