Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market’s probabilities are determined by individuals trading based on their own research and insights. While sportsbooks may initially have an edge due to specialized knowledge, prediction markets can sometimes outperform them, especially as more information becomes available and the event draws nearer. Discrepancies can arise from differing opinions on player form, injury reports, or other relevant factors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand; if more people believe Eva Bennemann will win, the price of shares representing her victory will increase, and vice versa for Valeriia Iushchenko.
