Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess the probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, as the 'wisdom of the crowd' on Polymarket may weigh factors differently than sportsbook analysts. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks, especially when there's significant public information available and a large number of participants trading in this market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and trader sentiment surrounding the Istanbul W50 tennis match.
