Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market’s prices are determined by traders directly expressing their beliefs. If a significant discrepancy emerges between this market and sportsbook odds, it could indicate that the crowd perceives information differently than the sportsbook, or that one venue has a more efficient market. It’s important to compare both to form your own informed opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a specific outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic process ensures the market price reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
