Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and to balance action, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. If a significant number of people believe one player will win, the odds on Polymarket will shift accordingly, potentially diverging from those offered by sportsbooks. It’s common to see differences, especially before a lot of money has been wagered on either side.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and reflect the collective intelligence of the participants. The current price reflects the market’s aggregate forecast for the Mazzoni vs Maric match.
