Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on statistical models and the insights of their oddsmakers, while this market relies on the incentives of individuals who are financially motivated to accurately forecast the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public perception deviates from expert analysis. Comparing the two can reveal where the crowd believes there is value or mispricing relative to traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and the platform facilitates the exchange of these shares.
