Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, which can sometimes differ from sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by participants’ beliefs about the outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that prediction market traders have access to information or insights not fully incorporated by sportsbooks. It’s common to see this market and sportsbook odds converge as the event approaches, but differences can present potential value for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular player, the price of those shares increases, reflecting growing confidence in their chances of winning. Conversely, selling pressure drives prices down. This dynamic pricing ensures the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and sentiment.
