Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aims to reflect the true probability of an outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, prediction markets can quickly adjust to new information and potentially offer more accurate probabilities as more people participate and share their insights. It’s valuable to compare both to form a well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing allows the market to efficiently aggregate information and reflect the collective forecast of participants regarding the Burgas tennis match. The current implied probability of a particular player winning is reflected in the share price.
