Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, influencing the payout. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probabilities as perceived by the crowd. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, prediction markets dynamically adjust based on real-money wagers, potentially revealing discrepancies between public perception and professional assessments. It's common to see differences emerge as the event approaches and more information surfaces.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and place bets, the price fluctuates, reflecting the evolving consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and any external factors are indirectly reflected through trader behavior. The current volume indicates the level of interest and confidence in the potential results.
