Generally, prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market’s odds are determined by the collective predictions of traders. It’s common to see differences emerge, particularly as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. These discrepancies can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders attempt to profit from the price differences between the two types of markets. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence regarding the Wagga Wagga tennis match.
