Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action on both sides, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each player winning. If a significant amount of money is wagered on one player, the odds will shift accordingly, potentially diverging from sportsbook lines. It's common to see prediction markets more accurately forecast outcomes, especially when there's a lot of information available and active trading.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each player winning. As more shares are bought for a particular player, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability of victory. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand, with traders constantly adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis. This dynamic process creates a market-determined probability for the outcome of the Wagga Wagga tennis match.
