Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a collective wisdom, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds. This is because prediction markets incentivize participants to provide informed predictions, while sportsbooks may factor in profit margins and biases. However, discrepancies can occur due to differing levels of information available to each group or varying risk appetites. It’s common to see this market and sportsbooks diverge in their initial assessments, but as the event approaches, the odds often converge as more information becomes available and the market becomes more efficient.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the group. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand; if more people believe Sato will win, the shares representing her victory will become more expensive, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date information.
