Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective intelligence of informed traders. Discrepancies can arise from differing information sources, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a particular outcome. If there's a significant difference between the implied probability on Polymarket and traditional sportsbooks, it could signal an opportunity for arbitrage or a disagreement about the true likelihood of the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, reflecting the evolving expectations of those participating in the market. This creates a real-time assessment of the event's potential results.
