Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the opinions of individuals actively trading on the outcome. It's common to see discrepancies, especially when there's significant public interest or disagreement about the likely result. Examining these differences can highlight potential value or areas where the market anticipates information not yet fully priced into sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing means the market constantly adjusts to new information and changing sentiment, providing a real-time assessment of the event's likelihood.
