Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments of the likely outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it may indicate that prediction market participants possess information not yet fully incorporated into sportsbook lines, or simply disagree with the sportsbook's assessment.
