Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, it might indicate that the market perceives information differently than the sportsbook, or that one venue has more informed traders. It’s important to compare odds across sources to identify potential value, but remember that each represents a different assessment of probability.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand, meaning that increased buying pressure will raise the price, while increased selling pressure will lower it. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information available.
