Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, the prediction market may move in a different direction. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before substantial betting volume occurs, as the market aggregates information and adjusts probabilities based on trader activity.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the match. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price fluctuates, reflecting the collective intelligence of the market. The current price reflects the aggregated assessment of all participants regarding the likelihood of either Marie Villet or Kim Chiarello winning.
