Prediction market odds often offer a different perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to be accurate. It’s common to see discrepancies emerge, particularly as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. These differences can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders can profit by exploiting the price differences between the two types of markets. However, it's important to note that both types of odds represent probabilities and are subject to change.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts accordingly, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and reflects the aggregated predictions of its users.
