Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those seen here, it could indicate differing expert opinions or a perceived edge by market participants. It’s important to note that prediction markets can sometimes offer more accurate predictions than traditional methods, but this isn’t always the case.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's potential results. The current implied probability of a particular outcome is reflected in the share price.
