Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders, aims to represent the true probability of an event occurring, though discrepancies can exist due to differing information or risk assessments. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than sportsbooks, as traders can instantly adjust their positions based on breaking news or changing circumstances. Examining both can provide a more well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand; if more people believe Cristina Diaz Adrover will win, the price of shares representing her victory will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the aggregated wisdom of the crowd and provides a real-time assessment of the match’s likely result.
