Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, opportunities for arbitrage may arise, as traders attempt to profit from the difference. It's common to see prediction markets move more quickly to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, especially in response to breaking news or shifts in public sentiment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective assessment of all participants, making it a dynamic and responsive indicator of expectations for the Candiotto vs Lovric match.
