Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by real-money bets and a wider range of information. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Comparing the implied probability from this market to sportsbook odds can reveal where the crowd disagrees with professional oddsmakers, potentially identifying value opportunities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of the outcome it represents; for example, a share trading at 60 means there's a 60% implied probability of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the latest information and opinions of traders.
