Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event occurring as determined by traders. This market, like others, may show discrepancies with sportsbook lines due to differing information sources, risk assessments, and the influence of public opinion. It’s common to see prediction markets reflect sharper, more informed odds, especially as the event approaches and more trading activity occurs.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price is driven by supply and demand, with traders expressing their views on the likely winner of the Ye vs Antici match, and the market adjusts accordingly to balance those views.
