Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on internal models and risk management, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when public sentiment strongly favors one outcome. Analyzing these differences can be a valuable exercise for informed decision-making, though it's important to remember that both have their strengths and weaknesses.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. As more shares are bought for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the perceived chance of that outcome occurring, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions are accurate. The current volume indicates the level of interest and conviction surrounding this match.
