Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, it could indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced the event. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither is guaranteed to be correct. Analyzing both can offer a more comprehensive view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants. The current volume traded provides insight into how actively this market is being assessed by traders.
