Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to reflect the true probability of an event occurring, as determined by traders. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, particularly when public opinion strongly favors one outcome. Analyzing these differences can reveal valuable insights into market sentiment and potential value bets, though this market's odds may shift as new information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes. The price of each share reflects the market's current assessment of the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust dynamically, creating a real-time prediction of the event's outcome. The market's efficiency depends on the number of participants and the quality of information available to them.
