Generally, prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by the collective predictions of traders. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise in assessing the overall probability of an outcome, but remember that each represents a different form of forecasting and has its own strengths and weaknesses.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of the traders participating in this event. The current volume indicates how actively traders are engaging with this particular market.
