Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the aggregate belief of informed traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of public attention. If a significant difference exists between the implied probability on Polymarket and those offered by traditional sportsbooks, it may signal an opportunity for arbitrage or indicate that the market perceives information differently than the sportsbook.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. The market’s efficiency depends on the volume of trading and the diversity of perspectives represented among the participants.
