Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant discrepancy exists, it could indicate that prediction market participants believe the sportsbook is mispricing the probability of a particular outcome. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities based on different methodologies and information sets. Discrepancies can also arise due to differing levels of information available to each group.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the aggregated expectations of all traders on Polymarket, and is influenced by new information and changing sentiment surrounding the Qian Daohu Jialan Cai vs Ke Ren match.
