Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, and can sometimes differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies emerge, particularly when there’s significant public interest or disagreement about the likely outcome. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making, but remember that both represent probabilities of the same event occurring.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, with the total value of all shares summing to 1. Traders are constantly adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis, leading to dynamic price fluctuations. This creates a real-time assessment of the event’s potential results.
