Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when public opinion strongly favors one outcome. Analyzing these differences can be insightful, but it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees, and are subject to change as new information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and it’s constantly updating to reflect the latest information and sentiment. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new data and adjust probabilities accordingly.
