Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance their risk, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own research and information. If there's a significant discrepancy, it may indicate that the market believes the sportsbook’s odds are mispriced, or that new information hasn't yet been fully incorporated into the sportsbook’s lines. It’s common to see convergence as the event approaches, but differences can persist.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event’s likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand, meaning traders are directly setting the odds based on their own analysis and information.
