Often, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event as determined by traders. This can lead to discrepancies, as prediction markets may be more influenced by expert analysis and inside information, while sportsbooks may be more sensitive to public betting patterns. It’s common to see differences in implied probabilities between this market and those offered by sportsbooks, reflecting differing perspectives on the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment of who will win the match. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current implied probability of a particular outcome is reflected in the share price; a higher price indicates greater confidence in that outcome. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust expectations as the event approaches.
