Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market represents the collective belief of informed traders. It’s common to see prediction market prices move independently of sportsbook odds as new information emerges or as traders identify perceived mispricings. Comparing the two can reveal discrepancies and potentially highlight opportunities for informed betting, though it's important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice-versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the match's likely result, driven by the activity of participants.
