Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by individual predictions and the willingness to buy or sell. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when there's strong public sentiment or information asymmetry. Comparing the odds can reveal where the crowd believes there’s value, or where sportsbooks may be overestimating or underestimating a particular outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of the participants, offering a real-time assessment of the event's potential results.
