Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies emerge, particularly as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. Examining these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making, although it's important to remember that both represent probabilities of the same event occurring. This market, like others, can sometimes signal shifts before sportsbooks adjust their lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants, and the market is open for trading until resolution.
