Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individual traders. It's common to see discrepancies emerge, particularly in events where public perception differs from expert analysis. Examining these differences can reveal valuable insights into potential mispricings and opportunities for informed betting. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities and are subject to change.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to incorporate new information and sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movement is driven by supply and demand; if many traders believe Hollie Smart will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's likelihood.
