Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a particular outcome is more likely than implied by sportsbook odds, the price will adjust accordingly. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event's potential outcomes. It’s common to see prediction markets offer more nuanced probabilities than standard win/loss bets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants. The current price indicates the collective assessment of the likelihood of each fighter winning.
