Typically, prediction market odds reflect a broader range of information and incentives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd. If sportsbook odds significantly differ from those on Polymarket, it could indicate disagreement about the underlying probabilities or differing levels of information available to each group. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks, especially when complex factors are at play, but discrepancies can also arise due to differing market participants and risk appetites.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth and trading activity influence how quickly and significantly the price adjusts to new information. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
